VINLAND SAGA the STAGE
~The End of the Sea~ / ~The Resurrection of a Hero~
Introduction
Daisuke Nishida, a renowned playwright known for his work on 2.5-dimensional stage adaptations such as "Sengoku BASARA," "Dynasty Warriors," and "Hakuoki," is now setting his sights on bringing the epic saga of "Vinland Saga" to the theater.
In the tumultuous era at the millennium's close, the Vikings, a formidable group known for their ruthless domination across various lands, are central to the story. Among them is Thorfinn, the son of a legendary warrior, who from a young age considers the battlefields his home and dreams of reaching the mythical continent of Vinland.
The play unfolds in two parts: "The End of the Sea" and "The Resurrection of a Hero." "The End of the Sea" explores Thorfinn's path towards vengeance, reflecting on his past, his pivotal meeting with Askeladd, and his deep respect for his father, Thors. Conversely, "The Resurrection of a Hero" shifts focus to Canute, the timid second prince of Denmark, who has been shaped by the brutal political struggles within the royal family.
Through the interplay of Thorfinn and Canute's narratives, the production highlights their evolution from a young man and a prince into figures of substantial historical impact. This contrast deepens the narrative, presenting a saga of true warriors set against a backdrop of relentless upheaval.
This adaptation promises to be a profound exploration of ambition, identity, and survival in an age of relentless conflict.
