Comment from Rasmus Faber

For most tracks, a big horn section is used (8 horns) which is more than we’ve ever had before! New arrangements come with this setting.
We are performing a vocal version of Cha La Head Cha La which is first time for us to record this version on video
A special vocal version of Ai Oboete Imasuka with Maia Hirasawa singing in Japanese
Zen Zen Zense, first time on video for us, with vocalist Josefine Wassler
Many more songs are recorded on video for the first time!

Biography

What do Japanese anime, a house music producer and a Swedish big band jazz ensemble have in common? If your answer is "not much", then chances are you have yet to discover the unique style and blend of anime music and jazz sensibilities that is Platina Jazz!

Anime, as a cinematic and television genre has its roots in Japan but it has seen a steady growth in attraction to global audiences from children’s cartoons in the 80’s and 90’s to main stream blockbuster status in recent years thanks to films such as Castle In The Sky and Spirited Away. The music contained in these productions is as diverse as the TV series and films are numerous.

It was in 2008, Swedish house DJ, pianist and producer Rasmus Faber first spoke of his love for the musical complexity of anime soundtrack music with his management. They discussed different ways of interpreting anime music to bring it to a wider audience and bring out its musical qualities to the fullest. By a strange coincidence, the manager had just had a similar discussion together with music journalist Yuzuru Sato, who had been expressing his wish to select anime songs for a jazz cover project. And from that moment, the Platina Jazz project was founded to bring those dreams to life.

Coming from a background of jazz music, Rasmus had all the right connections with jazz musicians in his home city of Stockholm, Sweden. The group's first volume, called "Anime Standards vol. 1" was released in 2009 to both critical acclaim and fan delight. Critics loved the "real jazz" sound of the album as performed by such talented musicians, and anime fans delighted to hear such carefully crafted versions of their favourite songs.

Four more albums followed – Platina Jazz Anime Standard 1-5 now released – together with a live album and accompanying DVD and more exciting projects are in the pipeline! The original recordings the band have interpreted are taken from a vast cross section of the anime genre encompassing well known classics such as the film ‘Nausica of the Valley of the Wind’ and more recently the film and TV series ‘Ghost In The Shell’.

The group’s live performances are constantly developing as are their audiences as Platina Jazz perform regularly in 7, 10 and 12 piece configurations across Japan, Europe and Asia.
